The Gauhati High Court has expressed displeasure over the slow progress of ongoing road construction works along the Dimapur-Kohima stretch and directed the authorities concerned to take expeditious steps to complete the pending works.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Manish Choudhury and Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer, while hearing a matter concerning the condition and development of the important road corridor, took note of the progress made by the authorities and observed that the pace of work required greater attention.
The Court emphasised the importance of the Dimapur-Kohima road, which serves as a crucial connectivity route in Nagaland and links the commercial hub of Dimapur with the State capital, Kohima. Delays in completing the works have a direct bearing on commuters, transport operators and the movement of goods along the corridor.
The Court directed the authorities and agencies responsible for execution of the project to ensure that the pending works are taken up on priority and completed without unnecessary delay. It also stressed the need for effective coordination among the departments and agencies involved in the project.
The High Court made it clear that the authorities must closely monitor the progress of the works and take appropriate measures to address any impediments affecting their timely completion.
The directions came against the backdrop of concerns over the prolonged execution of works on the road, with the Court seeking better implementation and adherence to the timelines prescribed for the project.

The High Court has accordingly directed the authorities to expedite the remaining works and ensure that the project progresses in a timely and efficient manner. The matter is expected to be taken up again to monitor compliance with the Court’s directions.
