The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has issued a show-cause notice to advocate Balraj Malik over allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour towards SCBA President Pradeep Kumar Rai during a media interaction.
The notice gives Malik seven days to explain why disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion from the Bar Association under Rule 35, should not be initiated against him.
According to the notice, the SCBA Executive Committee has found a prima facie case of alleged “improper and unprofessional conduct” against Malik.
The notice alleges that Malik forcibly approached Rai while the latter was interacting with the media and behaved in an abusive and discourteous manner. It further alleges that Malik used unparliamentary language and threatened Rai during the media interaction.
The Executive Committee has also taken note of messages allegedly circulated by Malik on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, as referred to in the notice.
Malik has been called upon to submit his explanation within seven days, failing which the Association may proceed in accordance with its rules.
The notice forms part of the SCBA’s proposed disciplinary action against Malik over the alleged incident involving its President. Any further action will depend on the explanation submitted by Malik and the Association’s subsequent decision.
