A Special Executive Magistrate court in Delhi on Wednesday remanded Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde to five days of judicial custody following their detention over their alleged unauthorised entry into the Jantar Mantar protest site.
The three were detained by Delhi Police on October 13 after allegedly scaling the barricades at Jantar Mantar, which had recently been removed from the list of designated protest venues.
The incident occurred amid the CJP’s continuing demonstrations over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The party members reportedly entered the site a day after the authorities withdrew its status as an officially designated location for protests.
The development comes against the backdrop of heightened restrictions on demonstrations in the national capital and a series of detentions linked to protests by the CJP and other groups.
According to reports, Delhi Police had taken the three activists into custody after the alleged breach of the barricaded area. Their detention followed the party’s efforts to continue its agitation at Jantar Mantar despite the change in its designated status.
The five-day judicial custody order places the three activists in custody while the matter proceeds further.
