The Karnataka High Court on Friday sought a response from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on a bail petition filed by former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna in a case alleging that he coerced a woman into appearing nude during video calls.
The single-judge Bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna issued notice to the SIT and directed it to file its statement of objections to the bail application. Special Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesh appeared for the State and accepted notice on behalf of the SIT. The matter has been posted for further hearing on July 3.
The case arises out of allegations that Revanna compelled a woman to appear nude during video calls after she approached him in 2019 seeking assistance for her son’s admission to a Kendriya Vidyalaya under the Member of Parliament quota.
According to the prosecution, Revanna obtained the complainant’s mobile number and thereafter contacted her on several occasions through video calls between 2019 and 2021. It has been alleged that he repeatedly demanded that she remove her clothes and appear nude before the camera. The prosecution further alleged that Revanna recorded the video calls and photographs without the complainant’s consent and subsequently threatened to circulate the material in order to compel her continued participation in such interactions.
Police registered an FIR under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Sections 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Revanna is presently serving a life sentence following his conviction by a special court in Bengaluru in August 2025 in a separate case relating to the rape of a domestic worker and the recording of videos of the alleged sexual assaults. Apart from the present proceedings, three other criminal trials involving allegations of rape and sexual offences against him are stated to be pending.
